KarumA-Arua Road finalized
______________________
The 234km road that stretches from
Karuma
through Pakwach and Nebbi to Arua, has been undergoing
gravel-bitumen upgrades since July 2001 under three contractors. Two of the
contractors finished their work some time back.
China Chongqing International Construction Corporation, who
experienced persistent delays in finishing the 62.5km
Pakwach-Agung section, finally handed over the road to
Government.
Other firms that worked on the road included, SBI International
Holdings and the China Road and Bridge Corporation.
“This is to notify you that the work on the above project has
been completed and has passed completion tests prescribed by the
contract,” the project engineers, Black and Veatch, noted in a
letter to the Road Agency Formation Unit (RAFU)
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Pakwach last week, the
Engineering Division Manager, at RAFU, Eng. Peter W.
Ssebanakitta, hailed the contractors for repairing the road
despite the fact that they started the project when the LRA
rebels were staging ambushes along the route.
